Wild Wild West Mule & Donkey Trail Challenge 2009
Rules /Scoring
- Every contestant must make an effort to complete each obstacle in the course, and do so in the order set in the course summary. Should a contestant miss an obstacle, they must go back and complete the obstacle before moving to the next obstacle. Judges are not required to tell you that you have missed an obstacle.
- The Mule & Donkey challenge is a timed event in which the mule or donkey will be judged on each obstacle for quality of communication. Each obstacle has performance points from zero to 10. Mule or Donkey attitude and rider's ability to communicate with their animal will decide the judge's points awarded.
- Contestants will be required to complete each obstacle within 45 seconds in order to receive points for that obstacle. If an obstacle is not completed within the 45 second time frame, the contestant will be flagged to move onto the next obstacle.
- Obstacle and competition rules will be reviewed in a contestant meeting 45 minutes prior to the start of the competition. It is the responsiblity of the contestant to fully understand the rules of the competition before the event begins. Contestants will be permitted to ask quesitons about the rules up until the first contestant enters the course. Questions should be directed to the judges or Steve Edwards.
- Spectators at the event are considered part of the challenge and each contestant must understand that the crowd may be a distraction.
- A Re-Ride can only be completed at the judges request.
- If a contestant falls off their Mule or Donkey, they will be disqualified, will not be permitted to remount, and will be excused from the arena.
- Contestants may use any type of tack that does not endanger the Mule or Donkey.
- Western attire, long sleeve shirts with collar, and a Western hat or Riding Helmet as well as riding boots are required. English attire required if using English Tack.
- Order of competition will be decided by a random draw during the walk-through with the judges. All contestants will compete according to that drawing order.
- Contestants may not change Mule or Donkey for any reason in the final qualifying rounds. If the mule or donkey is injured during the competition, the contestant must withdraw.
- The judges may disqualify a contestant for abuse of the animal or a violation of any contest rule. The administration of drugs other than what is prescribed by a veterinarian will be grounds for disqualification.
- Any complaints by the contestants must be brought to the attention of the judges prior to leaving the course arena. All contestants agree to abide by the ruling of the judges. The decisions of the judges are final and not subject to appeal for any reason.
